Milwaukee DPW to host 12th annual compost bin sale

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee's Department of Public Works is set to host its 12th annual backyard compost bin sale, featuring the Home Composter, a compost bin not available in stores.

The sale, which aims to promote waste reduction, recycling and resource conservation in a partnership with Recycling Connection, is open to all residents, including those outside the city limits.

Residents must pre-order their compost bin and kitchen pail online by Saturday, April 15 at www.recyclingconnections.org/milwaukee. Purchased items can be picked up on Saturday, May 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful which is located at 1313 W. Mt. Vernon Ave. in Milwaukee.

DPW will help residents schedule a pick-up appointment after the pre-sale closes. Residents who cannot attend pick-up on May 20 must arrange for someone to pick up their items on their behalf. No day-of sales will be made.

Each Home Composter compost bin purchase includes a Backyard Composting book. The compost bin aims to be easy to assemble, long-lasting, made from 100% recycled materials with a cost of $68, including tax. Kitchen Katcher stainless steel compost pails will also be available for purchase at $25, including tax.
