Milwaukee couple and their dog identified as victims in deadly crash near Appleton and Fairmount
Family MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – A Milwaukee couple and their dog was identified as victims in a deadly crash in Milwaukee on Sunday, Nov. 16.
According to Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office, 38-year-old Latasha Campbell and 39-year-old Jeremiah Jefferies died in the crash near Appleton and Fairmount.
Milwaukee police said the speeding car the couple was inside collided with a tree and caught fire.
Campbell's friend, Betty Goner, spoke with CBS 58's Kathryn Merck as family members gathered at the couple’s home in Milwaukee’s St. Joseph neighborhood.
“Nobody thinks it’s real,” Goner said. “We have such lively people, and they’re just gone. And it was just so tragic the way they had to go.”
Nyrel Smith said he witnessed the crash that happened outside of his grandmother’s home. He said he’s sadly familiar with speeding cars in the area.
“They was trapped in the car, and it was a lot of smoke and everything,” Smith said. “It’s a lot of speeding. Especially in the summertime, they act like it’s a racetrack.”
Family members said Campbell had one daughter and Jefferies had a son and a daughter. Goner said the couple was dropping Jefferies’ son off at the time of the crash.
