Milwaukee County Zoo elephants off exhibit for seven months in new habitat

MILWAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The elephants at the Milwaukee County Zoo will be off exhibit for the next seven months as they get acclimated to their new exhibit.

The Adventure Africa exhibit is the largest project in the Zoo's history. It is a 1.6-acre space with an 8-foot deep watering hole and outdoor heated patio with a 20,000 square foot elephant care center with a rec room and natural substrate flooring.

The new exhibit was designed to enrich the lives of the Zoo's two elephants: Ruth and Brittany.

Adventure Africa is expected to be unveiled in May, 2019.
