MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee County Zoo has stayed open through the air quality advisory. CBS 58 saw visitors at the zoo on Wednesday, June 28.
The zoo is making masks available to guests, although they are not required. As for the animals, the ape species and sub-ape species so far are the only ones that have been moved indoors as a precaution.
"So, the orangutans, gorillas, siamangs, and bonobos are inside due to the unhealthy air. And that's due to those species having respiratory issues just in general as a species," Jennifer Diliberti, Public Relations Manager for the Milwaukee County Zoo said.
Zookeepers are keeping a close watch on all the animals at the zoo to make sure they are suffering any ill effects from the air conditions.
