MILWAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office is launching a fitness camp. It's a new twist to the recruitment process.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office says applicants will get the unique opportunity to put their mental and physical capabilities to the test before they apply to join MCSO.

“Law enforcement, nationwide, we’ve been struggling a little bit with recruitment. A lot of lower numbers for female applicants as well, and we’re hoping that something like this will make the career a little more inviting,” said Deputy Kristine Rodriguez, with the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office.

Starting Saturday, those interested in applying to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office will get to experience some of the physical capabilities required to serve.

The “Sheriff’s Fitness Camp" is aimed to help those feeling anxious about the physical testing process by giving them an insight on what they will be tested on.

Deputy Rodriguez says this is the first time the sheriff’s office is utilizing a program like this.

She hopes it’ll help future applicants see where they are physically and what areas they can improve.

“It really is a very standard set of tests, like push-ups, sit-ups, running, and cardio with that. And so, we’re hoping to kind of just get people ready for that aspect of the application process cause that can be a little stressful for the applicants,” said Rodriguez.

The sheriff’s office will host the camp one Saturday a month, at 9:30 a.m. at the Milwaukee County Sports Complex, until October.
