Milwaukee County Salvation Army just $300,000 behind campaign goal

MILWAUKEE COUNTY (CBS 58) — The Red Kettle Campaign in Milwaukee County is nearing its goal. As of Thursday the total is $3.5 million, just $300,000 behind the campaign goal of $3.8 million.

The campaign runs until January 31.

Locally, 87 cents of every dollar raised is used to support programs and services in Milwaukee County.

"It is critical that we meet our goal in order to keep our programs and services that provide food, shelter, clothing and other assistance for families in need," said Major Steven Merritt, the Divisional Commander for The Salvation Army of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan.

Red Kettle Campaign donations support more than 80 programs and services in Milwaukee County, including the Feed The Kids summer meals program, The Salvation Army Toy Shop, the Backpack and School Supplies Program, Coats for Kids, Christmas Family Feast, the Emergency Lodge and two food pantries.
