MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- To help those without homes this weekend, an emergency warming shelter has opened near downtown, thanks to Milwaukee County and other agencies.
This is one of three walk-in warming shelters in Milwaukee County -- an invaluable resource for people needing shelter during these cold temperatures.
“I think people are just incredibly happy they can come in from the cold, I mean if you’ve been outside today, it’s bitter cold so even just getting inside and warming up right away. So many people are happy," said Eric Collins-Dyke of Homeless Services in Milwaukee County.
A community-wide effort to help those in need.
Milwaukee County is working with the city health department, Office of Emergency Management, American Red Cross and more.
Inside the shelter are snacks, coffee, water and clothing.
Most importantly, a safe and warm place to stay as the cold weather continues.
The shelter can house between 60 to 80 people -- staying open until 9am Tuesday for anyone seeking assistance. All you have to do is show up.
"Temperatures outside are frigid," said Disaster Program Manager Shana Beal. "The wind chill isn't safe for individuals to be out, so it's great to be able to partner with these great agencies to ensure that folks have a place to go."
The county says that anyone seeking information or shelter should call 211 for the latest.
