MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- An innovative tutoring system is doing its part in narrowing the literacy gap.

OpenLiteracy is a program that provides one-on-one tutoring from a licensed teacher to students in need of additional support.

The service began last year at two of Milwaukee College Prep's campuses. Since then, OpenLiteracy has grown to be very popular among students.

An event was held Wednesday, highlighting their success in the classroom.

"They are connected to a one-to-one person, three times a week, and that relationship builds along the way," said Alfred Keith, chief education officer, Milwaukee College Prep. "You mix all of those things together and kids are just thriving and they love it, so it has been nothing short of amazing."

Milwaukee College Prep's partnership with OpenLiteracy has expanded to all four of their campuses, with students and tutors meeting three times a week.
