Milwaukee city attorney files complaint against opioid companies

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A formal complaint was filed in federal court Thursday, Jan. 30, by the Milwaukee City Attorney, taking action against dozens of pharmaceutical manufacturers, distributors and pharmacies.

It's regarding the ongoing opioid epidemic, and it alleges that the companies engaged in false and misleading practices that have resulted in the increase in opioid addiction and overdose deaths in the city of MIlwaukee.

In a statement, Milwaukee Alderman Michael J. Murphy said in part that "this action is an important and necessary step forward, there is still work to be done."

He co-chairs the city-county heroin, opioid and cocaine task force.
