MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Brewers have appointed Pat Murphy as their 20th manager. Murphy, who has been serving as the team's bench coach since 2016 under Craig Counsell, brings prior Major League Baseball managerial experience.
He briefly led the San Diego Padres as an interim manager in 2015, recording a 42-54 record.
Before his MLB tenure, Murphy coached at the University of Notre Dame from 1988 to 1994 and at Arizona State University from 1995 to 2009.
In a Wednesday, Nov. 15 press release, General Manager Matt Arnold said, "Pat has been a significant contributor in the run of recent seasons of unprecedented success in franchise history. We are pleased to have Pat remain in the Brewers family and excited to name him manager today."
