Milwaukee-area nonprofits receiving $85,000 in financial contributions

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Four local nonprofits are the beneficiaries of grants totaling $85,000 from the Real Estate Alliance for Charity.

The organization's Charitable Giving Program aims to support local organizations that make a positive impact on the lives of children and families in Southeast Wisconsin.

Awards announced are $15,000 for Walker's Point Youth and Family Center, $15,000 for SecureFutures, as well as $5,000 each for PEARLS for Teen Girls and Prevent Blindness Wisconsin.

REACH announced the contributions in a Wednesday, Nov. 30 press release, noting that they are approaching the milestone of nearly $1 million being donated to organizations that positively impact the Milwaukee community.

The press release explained that Walker's Point Youth and Family Center aims to use its grant to help fund its Teen Crisis and Runaway Program Counseling Project, offering 24-hour crisis intervention and emergency shelter for runaway, homeless and other youth in crisis.

SecureFutures plans to expand its Money Coach program which mentors teens in historically marginalized, under-resourced communities to offer an in-depth financial literacy curriculum. College and career scholarships are also offered to students, most of whom attend Milwaukee Public Schools and qualify for free or reduced-price lunches.

REACH's Charitable Giving Program is actively accepting applications for its ongoing High Impact Grant program, with awards of up to $5,000 headed for eligible projects and activities on a quick-response, one-time basis. More information about how to apply can be found by clicking here.
