MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee fire crews responded to a large fire at a waste management transfer station Wednesday night, Sept. 2, off N. Industrial Road.

Firefighters responded to the station around 5 p.m., according to the Department of Public Works (DPW), which was closed at the time of the incident. DPW says garbage trucks bring collected material to the transfer station before it's taken to a waste management facility.

The fire department said crews were wrapping up at the scene as of 8:45 p.m., and no injuries were reported. 

DPW says while the adjacent self-help center was unaffected, it will be closed Thursday, Sept. 3, due to its proximity to the transfer station.

The Lincoln Avenue self-help center will remain open during normal hours Thursday. 

Officials say the cause of the fire remains under investigation, and the extent of damage has not yet been determined.
