Mexican Consulate Opens in Milwaukee

The new Mexican Consulate in Milwaukee is now open for business.

Wisconsin beat out three states to get it. Governor Scott Walker and Wisconsin congressional leaders lobbied for a consulate in 2013 and the Mexican government approved it in 2014.

It's the 51st consulate in the US.

It will serve the 260,000 Hispanics who live in the county.

They can get government issued documents, visas, id cards, as well as help with legal services. The consulate will operate on a trial phase. And if all systems are working correctly, a formal celebration could happen in July.
