GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (CBS 58) -- Meijer has announced a 15 percent discount on back-to-school items for teachers, including school supplies and home office equipment throughout the upcoming school year.

The discount will also cover other sections of the store, such as kids' apparel and cleaning supplies through Sept. 4, to support the budgets of teachers' families.

According to Karen Langeland, Vice President of Merchandising for Meijer, the savings will be extended in an effort to support teachers who have faced an increase in spending on classroom supplies.

"Teachers are spending significant amounts of their own money to prepare their classrooms, and parents are also spending more this time of year to get kids ready for the new school year."

The discount is available at all Meijer locations in the Milwaukee area:

• 11111 W. Burleigh, Wauwatosa
• 5800 W. Layton Ave., Greenfield
• 171 W. Town Square Way, Oak Creek

Teachers can receive the discount by presenting a current school ID at any Meijer Customer Service desk.

The coupon is valid only for in-store purchases, and restrictions apply. Teachers may obtain a new coupon for repeat visits to Meijer.
