Meet West Bend's 90-year-old crossing guard

Phyllis Wendt has been working in West Bend for 26 years as a crossing-guard.

She has been named \"crossing-guard of the year\" twice and works one of the most difficult intersections in the city. Everyday, she places out two sets of warning cones and helps children across the street.

West Bend Superintendent Ted Neitzke said Phyllis is a great help to all the kids and is well liked.

On October 17, the West Bend Police Department surprised Phyllis at her corner for her 90th birthday.

She says the children and smiling faces are what keep her going and says she wants to keep working as long as she can. Neitzke said that with more traffic and more distractions for drivers, Phyllis' job is more important than ever.

Phyllis says she plans to stick around to keep children safe.
