MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police are investigating a homicide near 76th and Mill Road Monday evening, Oct. 11.

Officials say it happened just before 5 p.m..

The victim, a 23-year-old Milwaukee man, sustained fatal gunshot injuries.

Bystanders who didn't want to go on camera said a black Chrysler was swerving down the road before shots rang out.

"Once that happened, police and paramedics were here, they must've worked on him for about half an hour, but there was no response, he's no longer here," said Reginald Alston, who was in the area when it happened.

Bystanders said they heard at least six shots from the car.

Witnesses said a second man jumped out of the victim's vehicle and got into a different car, which took off, damaging vehicles in its path.

Police were on scene for at least three hours, while loved ones and family members, some inconsolable, looked on.

Those who didn't know the young man say it was a tragic scene.

"Like I said, again, my heart goes out to the family, it's sad we have to witness things like this," said Alston, "But something needs to be done."

Milwaukee police continue to seek unknown suspects.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Milwaukee police at 414-933-4444 or Crime Stoppers at 414-224-TIPS.
