MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Fall is here and winter will be here before we know it. Now might be the right time to make your home more energy efficient.
October is National Energy Awareness Month, and Milwaukee officials want residents to know about its "Me2" program. It helps cover the costs of insulating homes and replacing old HVAC systems, which in turn, saves people money on their energy bills.
Another bonus: It helps create sustainable, green jobs right in Milwaukee and also helps combat climate change.
"The tremendous opportunity to upgrade literally hundreds of homes in the Milwaukee area, and to make them safe and energy efficient to help combat the problems of lead in homes that hurt our children, and to add weatherization technology to them to help lower homeowners heating costs as well as lowering greenhouse gas emissions," said Pam Fendt, Laborers' Local 113.
The updated Me2 program can provide up to $3,000 in incentives to help upgrade homes. Not every home is eligible, and all projects must be completed before Dec. 31.
