MCTS releases video of fight between bus driver and passenger that got driver fired
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee County Transit System is releasing video of a fight between a bus driver and a passenger that led to the driver's firing.
The fight happened near 27th and Wisconsin on January 14.
Video shows the passenger boarding the bus, asking the driver, identified as Shemurath Green, a question before the exchange escalates. At one point the Green is seen throwing a can of soda at the passenger. The argument continues for several minutes. The passenger can also be seen kicking the doors of the bus and breaking the glass before a nearby Milwaukee County Sheriff's deputy shows up and speaks to the rider.
MCTS released the following statement on the incident:
An incident that took place January 14 was a case of a driver reacting inappropriately to a passenger — unnecessarily escalating what could have been a normal customer service interaction.
MCTS is known locally and internationally for having dedicated and compassionate bus drivers. In this rare instance, one employee acted in a way that goes against MCTS policies, procedures, and expectations. Her behavior was inappropriate and unacceptable, which is why she is no longer with the company.
MCTS suspended Green on January 14 and she was later fired on January 18. MCTS says Green tried to get her job back but the request was denied on February 21. She was employed with MCTS for 14 months.
Milwaukee County Sheriff's Deputies let the rider leave the scene after they questioned her. Milwaukee Police have not been able to identify the suspect and are looking for her.
