The City of Milwaukee has received a $1.875 million grant from the U.S. Department of Justice’s COPS Hiring Program. These funds will allow the Milwaukee Police Department to hire seven new officers and join the 35 scheduled to start police training in December.
The federal grant will go before the Milwaukee Common Council’s Finance and Personnel Committee for approval.
“Public safety remains my top priority and I am thankful the U.S. Department of Justice is providing resources to keep Milwaukee residents safe,” Mayor Barrett said. “By adding more officers to the force, our neighborhoods will be safer and the City of Milwaukee will benefit as a whole.”
