Mayfair Mall shooting suspect to be tried as a juvenile

MILWAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The 15-year-old boy charged in the shooting at Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa last November, will stay in juvenile court.

The judge issued the ruling after listening to closing arguments Thursday, Feb. 25, and a day-long hearing earlier this month.

While the prosecution argued that the seriousness of the crime warranted the case be in adult court, the teen's defense argued that the services available in the juvenile system are adequate and appropriate for his client, which the judge agreed with.

"The waiver petition is denied because it is in the best interest of the juvenile or the public for the circuit court with juvenile jurisdiction to hear this case, so I will sign that order," said Hon. Brittany Grayson, Milwaukee County Circuit Court judge.

A plea disposition hearing will be held on Wednesday, April 7.
