Martinez, relievers whitewash Brewers 3-0

Carlos Martinez and two relievers combined on a five-hit shutout of the Brewers Friday night at Miller Park. The 3-0 loss drops Milwaukee to an NL-worst 3-14.

Jhonny Peralta and Jason Heyward homered for St. Louis. The Brewers had runners in scoring position in each of the first three innings, but Ryan Braun was thrown out trying to advance to second after a fly out to center field, and Matt Garza was caught trying to take third after a botched bunt attempt by Gerardo Parra.

Garza gave up three earned runs over six innings, but takes the loss to fall to 1-3 on the season.
