Marsh on fire in Beaver Dam grows to 100 acres

BEAVER DAM, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Beaver Dam firefighters were called to an out of control brush fire on Wren Road Sunday morning just after 11 a.m. Initial reports suggested the fire was about 3 acres in size.

When firefighters arrived the fire was moving quickly due to wind and tall grass. The fire was in a marsh so officials were unable to access the fire directly and had to relocate to the opposite side.

Since the wind was light and variable multiple units were staged at four different homes near the marsh to protect from flames.

Seven fire departments assisted in fighting the fire.

It took about three and a half hours for firefighters to get the fire under control.

In the end about 100 acres of marsh was burned, but no homes were damaged.
