WE Energies works to restore power plant outage causing heating issues in Milwaukee's Theater District

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- WE Energies says they are working to restore their Valley Power Plant, after the steam system went offline during the morning of Sat. Dec. 13, causing heating issues in downtown Milwaukee.

The Marcus Performing Arts Center made the decision to cancel the afternoon matinee of "The Pigeon Gets a Big Time Holiday Extravaganza", after they say they couldn't properly heat the building in time for the 1:00 p.m. showing.

In a statement to CBS 58, WE Energies says the Valley Power Plant came offline earlier this morning, affecting the gas supply to the plant. But they are working to restore affected customers now.:

"We have restored service to our steam system and are bringing steam customers back online," said WE Energies spokesperson Brendan Conway. "The restoration process requires us to first build pressure in the steam system. Once pressure reaches safe levels, steam service can be delivered to customers. Customers should begin to see service return over the next few hours, some are already restored. The issue was caused by an outage at our Valley Power Plant. The Valley Power Plant came offline earlier this morning when the gas supply to the plant was interrupted. Steam produced at the plant supplies service to our steam customers. That issue has been resolved, and we do not anticipate additional steam outages."

Conway added that the issue is not affecting electric of natural gas service.

Meanwhile, the Marcus PAC says ticket holders will directly receive further information about the next steps.

At this time, they say all remaining performances will go on as scheduled.
