Man Uses Roof Repair Scam to Steal Money from Senior Citizens' Home

Caledonia Police Department are warning residents of a theft scam occurring in the area. 

An Senior Citizen woman was outside shoveling snow when she was approached by a Hispanic male on Wednesday.

The man told her his father put the roof on her house 10 years ago.

He told her he stopped by because the roof was leaking and needed to be fixed.

Even through the homeowners just replaced the roof last fall, the suspect was let into the house.

The woman's husband was inside of the residence.  While inside the house, the suspect created a distraction and was unattended in the home. When the victim came back, the suspect was in the kitchen cabinets.

The suspect was able to move about the house unobserved by the elderly homeowners by asking about leaks in other places. After the suspect left the residence, the husband stated he was missing money from his wallet.

The cordless phone that was under the cabinet that the suspect was in, was unplugged from the wall.  The front door that was previously locked was found unlocked after the suspect left.

The description of the vehicle is full size gray or silver Pick Up Truck, GM product, no cap.  No decals on the truck.  Something other than a license plate on the front of the vehicle.  Two additional hispanic males were in the truck.  At some point the two other males were seen on the front walkway. 

The suspect's description is: Hispanic male, late 30's, 5'09", 170lbs, brown eyes, thin moustache wearing a blue jean jacket and blue jeans.  No hat and no gloves.
