Man taken into custody after standoff in Kenosha

A 34-year-old man was taken into custody after a standoff in Kenosha that lasted 9 hours.

Police responded to the 7000 block of 35th Street around 11:00 PM Friday for a call about a weapon being discharged in an upper apartment unit.

The caller said that the bullet passed through the floor and narrowly missed a tenant in the lower unit.

When officers arrived the upper tenant was uncooperative and refused to speak with officers.

Police said that while officers established a perimeter the man pointed a firearm out the window.

The Kenosha County Sheriff's Department Tactical Response team was activated and responded to the scene.

After several hours of negotiation pepper spray canisters were deployed into the man's apartment.

Around 8:00 AM Saturday he surrendered to officers and was taken into custody.

Police continue to investigate, but a handgun was located.

The 34-year-old man is being referred to the District Attorney's Office on charges of 2nd degree reckless endangerment.
