Man sentenced to 6 months after gun discharged and hit 5-year-old

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Court documents show that 27-year-old Terrell Moore was sentenced to 6 months in jail with Huber work release for discharging a gun and striking a 5-year-old. Moore was sentenced on Friday, March 15.

It happened on July 17, 2023, at an apartment near 85th and Brown Deer.

The complaint stated that Moore sat on the floor of his bedroom, laying his firearm down on the floor to the right of him before deciding to put the gun away. When he went to move it, the firearm went off, striking his fiancé's 5-year-old niece who was lying on the floor near him, according to the complaint. He was charged with injury by negligent handling of dangerous a weapon. 

The child was taken to a hospital and treated for an injury to her earlobe and a graze wound behind her ear. 

Moore changed his plea to guilty.
