Man sentenced to 18 years for role in death of Burger King employee during staged robbery
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee man was sentenced to 18 years in prison Friday in connection to the death of 16-year-old Niesha Harris-Brazell.
Harris-Brazell was working at the Burger King on 51st and Capitol in January of 2022 when prosecutors say Antoine Edwards attempted to rob the fast food restaurant.
A police investigation revealed Edwards' daughter worked at the restaurant with Harris-Brazell. Court documents show Edwards and his daughter admitted to police that the robbery was staged and they were in on it together.
According to a criminal complaint, Edwards drove up to the drive-thru window of the restaurant around closing time, and when Harris-Brazell opened the window, Edwards pushed his body through it while holding a pistol and pointing it at the girl.
Court documents said another employee inside the restaurant, identified as Derrick Ellis, shot at Edwards, but hit Harris-Brazell instead, killing her.
Records show Ellis pleaded guilty in April 2022 to possession of a firearm by an out-of-state felon. He was sentenced to five years in prison with five years extended supervision. The sentence was stayed, and the court placed Ellis on probation for four years, serving one year in the House of Correction.
Edwards' 18-year sentence will be followed by five years of extended supervision.
