Man sentenced in multi-vehicle crash that killed 13-year-old while riding his bike

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Twenty-four-year-old Veyante McArthur was sentenced to three years in prison after a multi-vehicle crash that killed a 13-year-old last year.

It happened on June 29, 2023, near 76th and Green Tree Road.

According to the criminal complaint, McArthur was driving a 2020 Nissan Altima when he collided with a Dodge truck. The Altima hit the passenger side of the truck and then careened off the road and onto the sidewalk, striking then 13-year-old Amare Crump who was riding his bicycle on the sidewalk.

The fire department arrived on scene, but Crump died due to his injuries.

The speed limit in the area is 40 mph. The complaint states McArthur was driving between 69 to 77 mph in the seconds before the crash.

McArthur pled guilty in August.
