Man runs away from traffic stop, gets hit by car, police say

MADISON, Wis. - A 28-year-old Madison man was struck by a vehicle Saturday night as he ran away from a traffic stop, Dane County officials said.

A Dane County sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop around 9:30 p.m. on Highway 51 at Commercial Avenue, according to a release.

The deputy made contact with the driver, who then got out of the vehicle and ran from the deputy, officials said.

Before the deputy could run after the man, the 28-year-old was struck by another vehicle going northbound on Highway 51, according to the release. He was taken to UW Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
