Man charged in MPD District 5 shooting committed for 30 years

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee man charged in a shooting at Milwaukee Police District 5 has been committed to the Department of Health Services for 30 years.

Darreon Lashawn Parker-Bell was found not guilty by mental disease or defect after opening fire at the police station back in February of 2022.

According to a criminal complaint, Parker-Bell became angry when he could not receive any information about the in-custody death of his friend, Keishon Thomas, who died days prior.

Parker-Bell fled the station on foot after the shooting and was shot by officers after police say he refused to drop his weapon.

Records show the court found Parker-Bell "lacked substantial ability to appreciate the wrongfulness of his actions."
