MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Police have arrested 32-year-old Alfredo Montanez who shot at Milwaukee Police officers on the evening of September 26 in the 900 block of W. Cleveland Avenue.

Montanez was taken into custody on October 31 during a search warrant at the Plaza Motel in Franklin.

Montanez has been charged with first degree recklessly endangering safety, possession of a firearm by a felon, bail jumping and fleeing or eluding an officer.

Back in September two Milwaukee Police Officers were on patrol when a red SUV sped by them and committed several traffic violations. The officers stopped the vehicle and during the traffic stop smelled an odor of marijuana. When police asked the man, identified as Alfredo Montanez, to step out of he put the car in drive and sped off. Before Montanez left the scene one of the officers saw a gun holster on the center console and yelled "gun!"

The officers chased the car and watched it crash near 9th Place and Cleveland Avenue. When officers arrived on scene the driver opened the car door and fired two or three shots at the officers. The officers returned fire. No one was injured and the suspect fled the scene.

Police found a gun where the suspect ran away and found a second gun on the floor of the car. In the SUV police found a wallet with ID of the suspect including his social security card.
