Man, woman arrested after shooting, pursuit involving Milwaukee police officers

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Two people were arrested following a shooting and pursuit involving Milwaukee police officers. 

It happened Sunday, Dec. 6 around 7:50 p.m. 

Police say officers in a marked squad observed a driver operating recklessly near 51st and Capitol. Officers caught up with the vehicle near 51st and Congress after police say the vehicle stopped in the middle of the intersection to avoid colliding with another car.

Officers exited the squad and attempted to make contact with the driver when an individual inside the car fired several shots. An officer returned fire. 

The suspect vehicle fled and a pursuit began. 

Authorities say the pursuit ended when the vehicle stopped near 60th and Hampton Avenue. Two individuals from the vehicle, a 31-year-old man and 30-year-old woman, were arrested without further incident. 

The suspect’s firearm was recovered. No one was struck from the gunfire as a result of this incident.

The officer involved is a 24-year-old male with over five years of service. He was placed on administrative duty.

This is an ongoing investigation. 

Criminal charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.

The officer returned fire. No one was hit.
