'Mamma Mia!': Here we go again as ABBA's hits take the stage in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The iconic musical "Mamma Mia!", celebrating 25 years of its use of ABBA's hit songs, is set to get audiences singing along at Milwaukee's Marcus Performing Arts Center with a story of love, laughter and identity. The musical, premiering Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024, will be featured for one week only.

At the heart of "Mamma Mia!" is a plot weaving through the Greek islands, where a young woman's quest to discover her father's identity unfolds. This narrative, interlaced with ABBA's music, has entertained over 65 million viewers globally since its inception in London in 1999, according to a press release issued by the Marcus Performing Arts Center.

The musical's enduring appeal is attributed to its engaging storyline and the global success of ABBA, whose members Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus penned the timeless tracks.

The musical's score is a testament to Andersson and Ulvaeus' songwriting prowess, featuring beloved hits like "Dancing Queen" and "SOS." These songs, integral to the storytelling, add a layer of depth and nostalgia. The musical's journey saw its Broadway debut in 2001, with two cinematic adaptations.
