MADACC advises pet owners to keep pets indoors during excessive heat warning

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission issued a warning, effective 10 a.m. Wednesday through Thursday evening, to keep pets indoors during the area's excessive heat warning.

The advisory targets animals, especially those with flat or pushed-in faces like French Bulldogs, Pugs and Persian cats, as well as overweight and dark-colored dogs.

MADACC also urges owners to take precautions such as never leaving an animal in a parked car, being mindful of humidity, limiting exercise and providing ample shade and water.

The warning reminds that pets can't compensate for heat like humans and advises pet owners to watch for heat stroke in their pets.
