Low grades leads to post-season ban for UW-Milwaukee basketball

MILWAUKEE -- The NCAA has denied UW-Milwaukee's final appeal of a post-season ban of its men's basketball program. The UW-Milwaukee Men's Basketball team will not be eligible for any post-season activity like the conference tournament or the NCAA tournament for the 2014-2015 season.

UW-Milwaukee's post-season ban was handed down by the NCAA, because of the team's poor academic performance.

During the 2012-2013 season, the men's basketball team achieved an Academic Performance Rate score of 905. This falls short of the mandated minimum of 925.

UW-Milwaukee Athletic Director Amanda Braun said, \"We are aware that problems did occur in the past, but we have faced them and made changes and are accepting the consequences from the NCAA.\"

The university says they have added support staff, and even began testing student athletes for learning disabilities. The university says students who need extra help will be given additional academic support staff.

In addition to a post-season ban, UW-Milwaukee will have to replace four hours of practice with four hours of academic activities every week.
