Lone star tick makes way to SE Wisconsin; known for transmitting diseases like Rocky Mountain spotted fever

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A lone star tick -- a type of tick the CDC says can be found throughout the southeastern and eastern United States -- was located in southeast Wisconsin.

A Facebook post from the Kewaskum Veterinary Clinic says the line star tick -- which can be identified by a white spot on their back -- was pulled from a patient in Washington County in May of 2023.

Lone star ticks are known for transmitting diseases like Rocky Mountain spotted fever, Ehrlichiosis, and Alpha-Gal Syndrome -- which is a red meat allergy.

According to the CDC, lone star ticks have inhabited the southeastern and eastern United States, but recently started to work their way north.
