Local teacher uses sound baths as holistic approach to mental health and wellness
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- For about ten years now, Jordan Moon has been using gongs, rhythmic drums and crystal bowls to help people with a meditative experience.
"There are sounds that will relax you and also sounds that will agitate you," said Moon.
The use of frequency and vibration created by these instruments is an ancient practice that is being found more and more in therapeutic settings.
Inside Moon's studio on Humboldt Ave. He helps both individuals and groups to feel calm and in the moment.
"Ideally they will feel relaxed and in a, you know, have your body have a sense of gratitude for life and their situation," he said.
Outside of his studio, Moon uses his breathing techniques to teach children about the importance of breath and the effect it has on your moods.
"If you're breathing shallow short breaths, you'll be more emotional, your emotions are closer to the surface," he said. "Not that that's a bad thing, but deeper, calmer, slower breathing relaxes you and allows you to think more clearly."
