RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) – Dozens of DACA rallies are taking place across the country.
March 5 is the original deadline set by the Trump administration to end the program that protects young, undocumented immigrants from deportation.
A federal court has ruled that all existing DACA permits have to be renewed.
Hundreds of young people are making their voices heard on the issue in our area.
The main issue DREAMers told CBS 58 is that they still don’t know what their future holds.
Six months ago, many thought today would be the day they were told to leave the country and even though courts have stepped in, there haven’t been any major moves by Congress to change DACA.
Students took buses from several local high schools and gathered outside Speaker Paul Ryan’s Office on 6th Street asking for that change.
They tell us they feel like they’re being pushed around with deadlines and inaction. They want a "clean DREAM act" that will allow them to stay in the United States.
About 300 people were at the protest in Racine on Monday.
