Local group ensuring hundreds of hams reach Southeast Wisconsin families

WEST MILWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Christmas meals are going to be on more households than would have previously, thanks to the Hunger Task Force's efforts in the Milwaukee area.

HTF is set to distribute more than 1,400 hams to its emergency food network from its headquarters in West Milwaukee. The hams will head to around 70 local food pantries in the area, free of charge, eventually finding their way to local families who are facing the greatest need during the holiday season.

Volunteers from Raymond James & Associates will help distribute the hams, along with potatoes and organiges donated by Outpost Natural Foods.

Just because distribution begins today does not mean that the effort to collect hams is over.

A $15 cost will pay for one ham and the Hunger Task Force will match all hams donated in December, with support from Meijer and radio station 102.9 The HOG.

Donations can be made online at HungerTaskForce.org or frozen hams can be dropped off at their donation dock, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 5000 W. Electric Ave. in West Milwaukee.
