Local mechanic offers safety tips for you, your car this winter

This artic weather blast isn't just hard on us, it's hard on our cars.

Having your car breakdown can be downright dangerous, especially if you're out on the open highway with no source of warmth.

CBS 58 News talks to a local mechanic who stressed that when this type of weather hits, you need to check several things.

"The level of the air in your tires is very important and the battery charge. Will have to be a full battery charge in case you have a problem," said Oscar Brenes.

Oscar also says it's best to have at least a half a tank of gas or more in your car and to make sure that the blades on your windshield wipers are in good shape.

And as always, don't leave your car unattended when warming it up.
