MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Families hoping for a tax refund may face delays this tax season, according to financial advisor Brad Allen of Drake and Associates who joined us to discuss details on Thursday, April 27.
While the IRS typically processes refunds within 21 days for electronic filers using direct deposit, the agency is still handling around 4 million unprocessed tax returns from previous years due to pandemic-related challenges.
Allen also noted that many taxpayers may receive smaller refunds, as numerous pandemic-related tax breaks have expired or reverted to normal. The average tax refund this year is approximately $2,900, reflecting an 11% decrease from last year.
To expedite refunds, filers are advised to choose electronic filing, direct deposit, and double-check their returns for accuracy.
