MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 3rd-grade student at Hartford Elementary has become the first ever MPS student to make it through the entire judgement process in the Mary Jo Nettesheim Literary Competition.

Kimberly, 8, won 3rd place for her book. Her school held a reward ceremony to honor her accomplishments.

The Mary Jo Nettesheim Literary Competition allows students in grades 3 through 12 the opportunity to show off their writing skills and artistic challenges. The books are judged on story structure, creativity, originality, spelling, sentence structure, grammar, and illustrations.

The winning books are displayed at the Spring Sigma State Convention.

Congratulations, Kimberly!
