Literacy meets cuisine; SHARP Literacy and local chefs fundraise by transforming McDonalds menu items into delicacies 🍟
MILWUAKEE (CBS 58) -- The importance of reading took center stage, along with a unique menu at a fundraiser for SHARP Literacy.
This is the ninth year of "Unwrapped MKE."
Local chefs have to use ingredients from McDonalds and transform them into a culinary treat.
This is all to support SHARP Literacy's mission of helping educate more than 8,000 kids across Milwaukee and Waukesha.
SHARP does it at no cost to schools.
CBS 58 talked to Amanda Wisth, the owner of Lemonyay!, who made chicken piccata meatballs with a lemon caper sauce.
She said she loves the challenge, especially for a good cause.
"It's a soul-igniting experience, because children are everything," Wisth said. "They're our future and they deserve to really kind of come into their best and deserve to learn and grow the best that they can. There's no doubt that SHARP Literacy helps assist that."
President and CEO of SHARP Literacy Lynda Welsh told CBS 58 "Milwaukee is all about community, you know, you see so many community leaders here that really, really care about urban literacy."
If you couldn't make it tonight but still want to support the cause you can donate here.
