WAUKESHA—More than a billion people around the world celebrated the Lunar New Year Monday. The Lunar New Year, often known as Chinese New Year or Tet (Vietnamese New Year), is the most important holiday for families of Chinese and Vietnamese descent, with celebrations extending more than two weeks.
Although 2016 marks the year of the Monkey, there is always one animal that brings everyone luck as the new year begins—the lion. Lion dancers are always a big part of Lunar New Year celebrations from Beijing to Hanoi to San Francisco, and Milwaukee.
CBS-58’s Priscilla Luong, who happens to celebrate the holiday with her own family, stopped by the Shaolin Center in Waukesha to take part in the fun.
