MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Bailey Dowd, aquatics lead at Life Time Brookfield, joined us on Thursday, June 4 to talk about some swim safety tips for families heading to pools and open water this summer.
Dowd talked about the 25:10 rule: any non-swimmer who cannot swim 25 meters continuously should always have a swimming adult within 10 feet. She also recommended maintaining a 1-to-3 ratio of swimmers to non-swimmers, getting CPR certified, taking breaks every two hours and choosing bright-colored swimsuits that are easier to spot in the water.
Swim lessons at any age were also encouraged, as well as a recommendation for Coast Guard-approved life jackets instead of inflatable floaties.
