SHEBOYGAN, Wisconsin (CBS 58) -- Benjamin Paddock, Stephen Paddock's father, appeared on the FBI's Most Wanted List in 1968 after he escaped from prison.
He was born in 1926 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. At the age of three, his family moved to Superior, Wisconsin and then Chicago.
His father was a traveling salesman and his mother came from a well-known Sheboygan family.
"This was a family that was we would look at as producing someone that would not end up on the FBI's most wanted list," said Travis Gross, Executive Director Sheboygan Historical Society.
Benjamin had a few run ins with the law and ended up in the Illinois State Prison.
In his 20's he moved west.
"We do know that Benjamin was involved in the 50's out in some criminal activity in the las vegas before he was picked up for the bank robbery in Phoenix in 1960 that sent him to prison for 20 years," said Gross.
In 1968, he escaped from prison and was put on FBI's Most Wanted List.
Stephen Paddock's brother addressed the media on Monday and said they did not talk to the father or know him.
The Sheboygan Historical Society found documents that show Benjamin passed away in 1998 but is working to confirm it. Stephen's grandmother is buried in Sheboygan.
