MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Amid actions from the Trump administration to deport illegal and sometimes legal migrants from the US, Milwaukee County Supervisor Caroline Gómez-Tom and the Milwaukee Turners held a Know Your Rights event at a community center in the city.
The goal of the event is to train people on how to talk to ICE agents in the event they're questioned about their immigration status.
"Really there's just a lot of information, and frankly, misinformation, in the community," said Gómez-Tom. "And I want to make sure our county office is providing truthful, accurate, up-to-date information for the community, so people don't feel so afraid."
Gómez-Tom says the event is a preventative measure and that while Milwaukee hasn't seen large-scale crackdowns from immigration and customs enforcement agents, other cities have, and they want people here to know their rights.
