KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Students across the Kenosha Unified School District tested their knowledge of influential Black Americans during a Black History spelling bee Thursday, March 5.
Mahone Elementary School hosted the event in its auditorium after students spent the past month studying historical figures who helped shape the nation. The challenge brought together students from several schools to demonstrate what they learned.
"It is just a great way to bring our students together, bring all the schools together and highlight our students' strengths," said Principal Taylor Schmit.
Students who won the district’s Black History art and writing contests were also recognized during the event.
