PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Slippery travel led to a multi-vehicle crash in Kenosha County today.

Headaches for afternoon drivers headed into Wisconsin, when State Patrol shut down all northbound lanes after a multi-vehicle crash in Pleasant Prairie, right across from the Pleasant Prairie Premium outlet mall. Drivers saying it's winter in Wisconsin, and we need to slow down when snowy weather hits.

"We're driving poorly that's for sure, we speed, we love to speed," said driver Josh Ticho.

Police tell us the accident happened as a burst of heavy snow came down, causing poor visibility and slick pavement. Two semis and several cars collided near Highway 165. There were a number of injuries -- no exact word how many, but we're told none are life-threatening. The traffic backup went on for miles, witnesses saying some drivers were making U-turns on the interstate, and that wasn't all.

Alternate streets got hit with a lot of traffic as drivers got routed off of I-94. This right here is northbound route 41.

"It said two hours and four minutes, but we'll see. God only knows what it'll be. Long as I get there safely I'm happy," said driver Bunny Otrembiak.

A frustrating afternoon even on the back roads, one woman referring to it as a "hot mess." Police held the line all the way into Illinois, detouring cars at route 173. Some, like Eugene Miner from South Milwaukee, decided to pull off the road to wait it out in a gas station.

"And I just seen that on the way coming down, so I said I'm just gonna sit here until it clears out so I can drive back," said driver Eugene Miner.

The State Patrol reopened northbound 94 just before 5:30pm, after a four-hour shutdown.
