KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

A Kansas City police officer has died after being shot Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities said to KCTV, Capt. Robert Dave Melton died while reporting on an armed disturbance call.

Officers arrived on the scene at 1:37 p.m. Melton was shot at 1:58 p.m., according to police. He attempted to make contact with another suspect in the area.
